Bound Material Scanning has progressed more slowly than usual since the last Board meeting due to workers family commitments, trips and events over the Holidays. Work on the inventory of our magazine collection has also taken time away from scanning but is necessary to be sure that none of our collection is missed. As of December 31, 2014 the total number of magazines scanned, processed, safely stored and ready for Patron use is 4196.
The magazine inventory of our US collection has progressed satisfactorily and is nearly complete. It is organized to show individual magazines by name, number, year and month and then the number of each in the archive (loose issues), bound, scanned and surplus collections. It is interesting to note that there are over 3500 different issues in our collection and more than 1000 different issues in surplus. The total number of items “for sale” is more than 4000 considering duplicates.
Lou, Terry and Sue have helped tirelessly with the inventory and Dave did important preliminary work in organization and provided leadership.
Since our foreign collection has been only partly scanned its inventory has been only partially completed. Australian, Canadian, French and Italian are mostly finished but our large holdings in British, German, Dutch, and others have only just been started. Our foreign collection will probably turn out to be somewhat larger than our US one.
Many thanks to our fine workers who have made the above progress possible.
